Dog covered in hives- help!

Postby LetaGrlShowU » Sun Jul 17, 2011 7:32 pm

I have a white pit/am bulldog mix. She is very sensitive but has not had people food of any kind lately. She woke up with about 6-8 hives on her, mostly on her back legs. I gave her a small dose of benadryl and the ones that were there started to go away and some new ones appeared. hours later i gave her some more and within the past hour she is COVERED in hives. She appears fine... have energy, happy, eating and drinking. But it looks bad. Hubby just bathed her in Nova pearls and she appears a little better. anyone have experienced with this? I'm really worried. I called my vet but no response (i called her cell and left message)

Any help would be great, or any signs to look out for.

Something tells me you'll end up giving her more, but def talk to a vet.

My boy gets hives with too many bananas. :(

Have you checked previous posts too see what other people have given?

Do you have or can you get the pills?

You can talk to the vet, but you can give up to 2mg per lb(max dose) I believe every 8 hours. I am not at home to check my book.

I gave my dog 2 mg per lb and did a cool bath when he had an unexplained hives outbreak.

I did get a cal back from my vet. She said if the hives continue to get worse, take her to the emergency clinic to get an injection (cant remember what she said it was). Or just take her in the morning if they're still there for the injection. I am thinking its possibly poision ivy? I dont have anything to back it up. I did look up other dogs who have had hives on this forum, and the most closely related pics was of a dog that ate a wasp. I cant leave my daughter sleeping to get the pills, but i will do that tomorrow after work. Since her breathing isnt labored and she appears fine, i think i will give her an oatmeal bath in the morning and follow with benadryl before going into work.

She has never had hives before. :(
