Feeding Raw

How does everyone feed their raw?
Outside, inside? How do you keep the areas clean and hygienic?

I just started feeding them all outside. Got tired of 409'ing and steam cleaning my floors .

I feed inside. Khan has a towel he eats on that I put down. The cats for the most part eat out of their dishes. Sometimes with a placemat underneath. They eat on tile and I wipe the area up when they are done.

I don't know how you guys can do this day in and day out - I'd rather feed outside. I feed Charlie puppy in his crate when we babysat and it was a drag to clean it out twice a day.....

Mine are fed outside and they only eat 1x a day.

Used to feed them in their kennels, but most take their food into their dog house and end up eating straw and/or cedar. So, that's why we generally bring them inside (after their daily exercise/workout) and feed. With a mop, it's really not that bad. Some bleach/cleaner and water and a quick mop out, it's fairly easy and quick! And ours are fed 1x per day.

Just fed the dogs some 10 week old quail. I tried a few years ago and Keela wouldn't go for it. Today, she took forever, but she ate 2. She threw up afterwards, but ate it again, without problems.

She's so sensitive about textures and different tastes - silly dog.

Whole quail? I've been stripping half the feathers off when I give them to the ferrets because otherwise it's a hellavu mess, they won't eat feathers and I find them everywhere!

I was worried about that, but they don't seem to make a mess at all. They crunch the bird up and swallow it - not pull apart into little chunks(thank goodness!). The latter causes one heck of a mess - weather it be fur or feathers.

I started Apollo on RAW, I got some heart and liver for him. How do you cut it up? Does it bleed all over?

Cut up both of those items when they are mostly frozen. MUCH easier and less messy.

Have you been reading b/c neither heart nor liver are appropriate "starter" foods. I suggest chicken, typically leg quarters.

Khan has been on raw for over a year and I still have to be careful with organ

I have been slowly switching him over for a little over a month. He is on chicken legs right now.

I am holding off on the heart/liver, it is sitting in the freezer. My friend just slaughtered some of her cattle herd and gave me a heart/liver and I couldn't say no to free dog food
I just wasn't sure how to even approach cutting it up.....
