Natual cure for incontinence?

My 7 year old, spayed female, is spotting. At first it was very little spots on the carpet. But now its happening more often with bigger spots. I know there are meds I can put her on with a trip to the vet. But my question is, is there a more NATURAL way of curing this problem? If not cure it, at least manage it? My husband and I are very reluctant to put our dogs on any type of medication. My dog had a limp a few years back and the vet suggested surgery that would have cost us over $3,000. Instead, we changed her diet to raw and started exercising her in the pool. Now her limp is completely gone. I guess I'm just hoping for something more natural instead of immediately giving her drugs. Of course, if there is nothing I can do but medicate her, then that is what I will do.

My girl also suffers from this. At first I managed it by managing her. More frequent potty breaks and the water got pulled at 8pm so she wouldn't wet the bed while sleeping. This worked for about a year but then she progressed beyond the point of me being able to manage it naturally. I am unaware of any more natural methods of treating urinary incontinence though I was thinking of taking her to my holistic vet just to get her opinion on the matter.

Good luck, hope you get some good advice on the matter. It's no fun.

A holistic vet is definitely an option. In addition to that there's something called a belly band. One of Celeste's dogs had to wear one (if I remember correctly) because he had no control over his bladder.

A belly band is for a male dog. It won't do anything for a bitch. You can put panties on a bitch that spots (or a diaper), but I think most bitches would rather have the meds than wear the clothes.

Thanks for the link! I've also been going through this problem, trying to find a more natural fix. That product seemed kinda pricey, but when I converted everything to pounds and teaspoons it looks like I'd only be giving 1.2 teaspoons/day, so it should last a while. Think I may give it a try to see if it helps any...

This doesn't sound like normal incontinence... your dog should see a vet.

Also, your dog may not be limping anymore, but that doesn't mean your dog isn't developing severe osteoarthritis that will drastically decrease her quality of life in the future. Maybe you should get her knee checked out too while you are there to make sure the partial tear healed, and make sure she isn't fooling you. I see dogs walk on ruptured ligaments all the time, just because you can't see it doesn't mean your dog isn't in severe pain.
