Excess Protein in Urine

So my lovely dog started peeing and pooping in the house this past weekend (I was away and he was with my parents) and I thought it was behavioral. He also pooped so then I was leaning more towards behavioral. I figured I would get his urine checked to be sure it wasn't a UTI and he was due for his annual anyway.

His protein levels in his urine came back high - not anything crazy but the vet wants him rechecked again. I had switched him to Taste of the Wild Pacific Stream from Science Diet and no issues. We went with the High Prairie formula the next time and he has been on that for about two weeks maybe. Could that be the problem? I might pick up a bag of the Pacific Stream and feed that to him for the next two weeks to see where his protein levels are and if that fixes it.

Should I switch his food completely to a lower protein brand?

I'd recheck it first... and have a urine protein:creatinine ratio done too...

Properly functioning kidneys should be able to handle TOTW no problem, but every dog is different.
