Now ten-years young, we decided to take Scylla in for a full senior screening. The works. One of the things they offered was an allergy screening. Scylla eats anything with gusto, and has never had a reaction, BUT we have noticed she licks herself a lot and she gets itchy spots easily. Maybe it was a food allergy. So we went for the screening.
Wow. she came back positive/borderline for: alfalfa, wheat, potato, sweet potato, corn, barely, salmon, soy, and peanut!
Obviously none of these are too big a deal, because she eats almost all of them in her raw patties and kibble. Of course I'm going to go through her food and make sure I avoid these ingredients from now on.
But peanuts??? she loves peanut butter. she loves it!
I'm trying to think of what I can give her as a substitute. Can dogs have almond butter? Is there another cheap, accessible, pasty product I can try? She gets kong-filler (liver paste in a can), but I feel like that's so salty and full of preservatives. I've never had a dog with an allergy before (to my knowledge... now i realize how sneaky allergies can be!)
