Dog Dandruff

I've given my dog Benji his first bath, and he's had pretty bad dandruff ever since. Any recommendations on a good shampoo for this? He seems to be itchy from it. Thanks!

Use a moisturizing shampoo made for dogs, an oatmeal formula is usually best.

Make sure to rinse well, and rinse with luke-cool water so you don't dry out the skin.

This, and dilute the shampoo. 1/2 shampoo, 1/2 water (or more). It doesn't need to be full strength to work, and it rinses out more easily.

I use coconut oil in my dogs food along with salmon oil to help with the dandruff. The above is good too until you can get her to produce enough oils to not be flakey.

If you want to try a different brand of shampoo, I think Earthbath is great. Their oatmeal shampoo is wonderful for adults, and their puppy shampoo is great too, although I think it smells like cough syrup.

I second the coconut oil in the food! My blue has terrible skin allergies (which they are infamous for) and changing her food really helped her dandruff and crusty edged ears. We have had her on Victor brand food for about six months and I am very happy with the improvement in her skin and ears.
