She destroyed the e-collar while in the crate. Crates and cones don't really mix well at all.

If she isn't a persistent licker, the inflatable donut style e-collars may work well for her. They sell them at our local petco so I would imagine others have them as well.

Ah, I wish. I believe the closest one is an hour and a half away. Tomorrow I will call the vet and see if they know of any place that carries something like that.

The donut worked well for Roscoe too. He seemed to think it was his personal pillow. It was totally useless for front legs though.

Keela is doing great with not licking. I think I'm going to get both dogs a Neck Hug pillow/collar. I'm worried about the inflatable ones being popped.

After having the staples removed, licking isn't much of a problem, right? The collar isn't really needed after two weeks?

I don't remember for sure, but I think we had him wear it longer than that, I think it was more like four weeks. I wanted to be sure it was totally healed.

Just got back from the 6 week post op appointment. They took x rays. The vet said everything is healing beautifully. I'll have her started on the carpet mill in two weeks.

She's such a tough little bitch. Right now, she's passed out on my bed. They knocked her out and brought her back in about 10 minutes. It was so funny to see her go back with the vet, all full of spunk and energy - then return spaced out of her mind. you could tell she was confused.


So, that's one more vote for the TPLO. Having a 7 year old, high energy dog, I am very happy with the choice.

I don't think it's a good idea while they're still healing, but afterwards it should be fine.

Just start really slowly and build your way back to full exercise. Glad she's doing well!

you def made the right choice by surgery...my boy had his one back leg done a couple years ago and the other back leg went right after....I couldn't imagine him not being able to walk on his back legs at all....
