Coconut Oil?

I just bought some coconut oil to try for my skin care routine....getting tired of my winter skin heheh. Anyway, I was reading up on the stuff and a few places said that coconut oil is actually good for pets to eat - can help with digestion, skin/coat, hairballs(cats), joint health, and bad breath, among other things. Does anyone use it, and if so, have you had any results?

Both of my girls get a table spoon a day in their food. It helps tremendously during winter when it is dry. Keeps them silky, shiny, and soft. They also love it. Occasionally I will put it directly on their coats or fosters if they look a lil too dry for my liking.

Do you warm it first or do you just give them the little chunk?

I just scoop out a spoon full. I keep it at room temp.

We use it too! Our foster gets a little bit of irritation on his nose (he's an English bulldog) when we put coconut oil on it regularly it looks great. Coconut Oil has so many great qualities-antibacterial, antiviral, and anti fungal (the one I'm most concerned with is yeast).

There's a website, I think it's called www.organicfacts.net that lists all of the benefits of coconut oil. I'm sure there are others too.

Thanks for the tips guys! And the link! I gave Greta a teaspoon tonight with her dinner and she LURVED it. And I have some on my hair right now . We'll see how it goes.

Can I chime in with a question please? When you put in on your dogs, do you melt it a little or just scoop it out and rub it in? Also, does it make their hair greasy or does it absorb?

I keep it at room temp, so it is soft. I just put a lil on my fingers and rub it around, then apply to whatever area needs extra oils. I do a really light coat of it and it is oily at first, but then it soaks in. It smells good and doesn't hurt anything if some rubs off, so no worries :-)
