Bella has MRSA

Postby kathak » Thu Aug 22, 2013 1:05 pm

I believe have written on here before about Bellas skin problem. After a thousand days on antibiotic and something like benadryl nothing was helping and it was just getting worse. The Vet took a culture and we found out she has MRSP (canine form of MRSA) and Pseudomonas aeruginosa (another bacterial infection). She is on Zeniquin right now which is super expensive.

Anyone having experience with that?

My dog had MRSP too. It was only sensitive to Enrofloxacin and Vancomycin so we did the Enro ($$$) for 4 weeks (plus a million other meds) and thank goodness he did better. He was always an allergy dog but at a more manageable level. My advice would be to ask your vet about treating the underlying cause (probably allergic skin disease) and possibly about consulting with a vet dermatologist since skin stuff can be really tricky.

Yup, I agree-- I would be asking for a referral to a dermatologist!
