Loose skin around neck

Postby Kodas Dad » Mon May 02, 2005 5:16 pm

I was just curious about the loose skin around Kodas neck. Is it a dew flap? Or is it just loose skin he needs to grow into? He is 1 year 8 months old. I asked a lady at petsmart about it. She told me he probably comes from a bloodline that was mainly for fighting? She said the loose skin on his neck and face would be to his advantage. Im just curious and opions are welcome. BTW you can view Koda at his dogster page. Thanks Kodas Dad.

I agree it does sound bogus. I'm wondering if a dew flap is common in apbt's?

I Really have NO Idea, other than it probably is in the lineage or the mix in the breeding of the dog.

but the lady at petsmart I have to kind of chuckle at that..
as I said i have NO idea on lines of dogs.. but I would think that a bunch of loose skin at the neck would give a dog something to bite "onto". but that is just my common sense thinking, not knowledge of fighting dogs, (which I have none other than what I read)

It would be considered a flaw in a show dog but it isn't uncommon at all..... It is called dewlap.

It is very pronounced in the breeds that were bred to have this for fighting reasons and the pitbull isn't one of them. Daisy has alot of loose skin around her neck, it's just from poor breeding choices.
