Is Flea Medication Neccessary all year long?

Postby abbysmom » Sat Jan 14, 2006 9:45 pm

I live in Bronx, NY and take abby on walks in my neigborhood and to the dog run on weekends. During the winter months is flea medication necessary?

Ours are only on flea medication for 6 months of the year. Mainly because it goes with their heartworm meds.

In NY, I think probably not. I generally only use the products when I see fleas, though this last summer, I had to wind up applying Advantage every month for 4 months or so, until the fall, because the fleas kept coming back. We've had some real cold, dry weather this winter, so I'm hoping the flea population got knocked back.

I'm in Va, and only use it May-Aug or Sept.
