yet another springpole question...

Hey all,

I need to build a springpole in my backyard for the kids. problem being, I dont have any trees. Would it be a totally bad idea to somehow attach some lumber to the side of my house?? I am completely retarded when it comes to this stuff, so I am trying to stay away from doing a free-standing structure that involves concrete.... so any suggestions would be appreciated. thanks!!

well, you can make 1/2 of a square out of 2x4 . Cut a board at a 45 degrees on both ends to brace it and hang a through bolt with an eyelet on the end. Heavy Duty Lag bolts will secure it to the house. I would still go with the free standing one.

I was thinking of making one too moto and thats exactly what I was gonna do but off my garage..but i would have to have at least 3' of overhang to have enough room for him...i could use the length of the 2x4 as support so 5 ft could be attached to the garage with the half of square...i believe it would be stable enough I'm just not sure the 2x4 would hold up with that much overhang...

None of what you guys wrote makes ANY sense to me!!! All I can see in my mind is a 2x4 bolted to the front of a garage.......

What's really sad is I even know what a springpole looks like!!!!!!

One option would be to take a 10' 4X4 and stick it in the ground 2 feet. Then put a 2x4 with a brace hanging out 3-4 feet from the main pole.

Or you could use 2 4x4's, put another across the top and hang the bite surface from the middle. Much like Diane Jessups set up but smaller.

i couldnt do that...that would be the majority of my yard i think i am gonna do the original idea using a 2x8...should hold. i'll post pics once its up

I would be careful, I have seen some pic's of some peoples dogs in here going nuts with a Spring Pole, you dont want him grabbing hold and swinging himself into the house. Just a thought.

Exactly. I have had to take the one off my deck down because Doc jumps so high for it when he gets riled up that me has smashed his face into the deck open mouthed several times. I prefer the free standing structures or trees.
