Poor poor Amy!

Postby amysmom » Sun Aug 13, 2006 3:27 pm

I dont know whats going on with her, but her whole 1/2 of her left side of her face and jaw is swollen!! She cant even see out her eye, its swollen shut. I feel so bad for her! I called and talked to the vet(Sunday) and he said try giving her some Benadryl and see if that helps, so I did, and NO it didnt help. :( I dunno what it is! Maybe a bite or sting? I am going to get her to the vet AS soon as I can tomorrow, and hopefully they can do something for her. But she looks so miserable...and whines when its touched. One thing though, the other day her and my boxer were messing around and she banged her head on his jaw. Is it possible it did something to her?? I am clueless......

if it isnt allergies it could be a rip in jaw muscles or a cracked bone, but my guess is muscle because a jaw bone takes a lot more than a bump to break... for now i would just put some icyhot on it until you can get her to the vet tomorrow

Poor baby! Is there no emergency vet nearby you can take her to today?

Poor Amy! Could also be a bee or wasp sting - there are plenty of those around here right now - Hope it is nothing serious.

could it be a rattlesnake bite?? Either way, watch her temperature carefully, and give her benadryl weather you see a difference in the swelling or not. If she starts to have trouble breathing, get her to a vet asap.

How old is Amy?

It does sound like a sting or bite of some sort. Hopefully the swelling will go down soon.

Are her lymph nodes (in her neck) swollen at all? Does she have a fever?

Sorry for the double post,,,,
Is she running a fever? If so try a baby asprin (buffered). It will help until tomorrow.

Ok-I took her to the vet today and they ended up keeping her to drain it. It was an abcess, from a bite, from a animal, but not sure what animal! She was so pathetic looking. It started bleeding and leaking pus today before I got her to the vet....it was AWFUL!! So hopefully she will be well enough to come home tomorrow, and get to feeling better.
