Rectal Polyps

Postby Katie » Mon Oct 11, 2004 7:43 pm

A dog I am going to adopt, Sailor (although we're changing his name to Napoleon), has what the vet thinks is a polyp. He was doing a lot of straining and prolapsed his rectum. X-rays showed no foreign body stuck inside him. If I understood the vet correctly, she could actually see the polyp when his rectum prolapsed. She thinks it will probably have to be removed.

Has anyone had any experience with this? How common is this procedure? What is the possibility of incontinence or chronic diarrhea? Since his rectum prolapsed, will he also have to get that surgically tacked down?

Katie, I haven't had much experience with the situation but I would love to hear how things turn out. Keep us updated!
