We get the 17-year cicadas here too in the midwest...last time I was quite young and the invasion wasn't bad at all, because of some weird reason like abundant construction projects disrupting their hibernation.

They sleep in the ground or something for 17 years and then wake up right on time....any BUG that can stay alive that long must be THE DEVIL...AAHHHH I hope they're not too bad!! Eeewww!!!

I hate when bugs hit me while flying, or crunch under my feet!! Ew, I'm shuddering thinking of those huge crunchy things underfoot. :yucky:

roflmao roflmao roflmao

Annika, I agree with you! It really freaks me out these creatures are living under dirt for so long and they emerge like a scene out of Aliens or something.

They do look kind of alien-ish...big 3 inch creepy bluegreen flying noisy bugs with scary bulging eyes...

No they just make sure to nail you in the face if you're doing anything outside...

Or cover your shoes when you walk through the grass...

Evil, evil bugs...

How funny! This has been my background for weeks.

The words say Some cicada live from 13 to 17 years underground... They emerge and live for 72 hours as breeding adults. One wonders if the sex is worth it.

I guess I'm lucky, I've lived in the midwest most of my life and have never gotten one in my hair.

Is it wrong that I like their song? They're such horrid things to look at, though.

The last time they were out our cat ate a ton of them but the dog left them alone.

Heh, I'll never find out what Ziggy thinks of cicadas, since we're moving... he has heard them last year, but he never caught one.

He does love the june bugs though! They come flying at our porchlight at night and all he wants to do is go outside and chase them around! He eats them too.

Nothing wrong with a nice crunchy snack! Most insects are fine for animals to eat, including cicadas, grasshoppers, june bugs, etc. Just avoid the stink bugs and darkling beetles! ewww!
