Poop on Raw

Postby Maryellen » Thu Jun 14, 2007 10:06 am

sooo for those feeding raw, what is your dogs poop like? and how many times a day does the dog go?

since putting my dogs on raw, they are pooping ALOT less.. like maybe now 2x a day... sometimes only 1x a day...

is this normal on raw to poop once a day if that? no one is straining to go either, as i have been watching them

Hey ME.

Shadow's on raw and only poops once a day. The poop is smaller than before he switched over to Raw.

Depending on what type of meat my dogs eat, sometimes they poop once or twice.

Mine are 1/2 raw, and have ALOT less poop, it also is way less stenchy, and it goes away with or without my "junebugs" in about 2 days if it is warm dry weather. I either have just a small mound of "dirt", or a little white piece of chalk. The poop is pretty good indicator of your meat/bone/organ meat balance as well. :peace:

When Loki was eating probably a 60% raw diet, she had a lot of poops that were like white chalk. She seemed to poop about the same amount, but it was much more pleasant accidentally stepping in the chalp poop rather than the brown stuff.

Ruby is half raw and poops 2-3 times a day. The aroma is significantly improved!!! I noticed I missed a few little poop pieces the other day and they are shriveled up and I just left them. And the chalky parts are even less offensive. But, she still poope 2-3 times a day - once would sure be nice!

Yup. The only thing I watch for is straning with extra hard white poops or tar-ish, sticky poops. Then I tweak what I'm feeding.

Sounds good to me - I'd be happy with those poops!

I miss RAW poops. RAW didn't work out for us...but there was a lot less poop and it disappeared in a few days. Back on kibble, these dogs are pooping machines!!

Raw poop rocks.
My husband wants to get all the dogs changed over for that reason alone!
I read somewhere that the fecal matter is reduced to 20% of a kibble fed dog but don't know if its true. It certainly seemed like it.
Very small, dry and well formed, and almost odorless. woo hoo

I'm new to raw feeding too.

Since Mina's been fed raw, she poops once a day. It's small and harder than her poop on kibble.

I think it's normal for a dog to poop less on a raw diet.

Another raw feeder described it to me this way: Think of it as garbage in, garbage out.....your feeding her a species appropriate diet now....so there isn't much 'garbage' going in, which means picking up is much MUCH easier.

Those white chalky things are poop...I forgot...LOL

I really enjoy seeing them instead of the brown mess. Where I am now, I still have to pick up after Shadow in the yard, even those the mower is just going to turn them into dust and then fertilizer. But, it's nicer to pick up chalk then glops.
