Allergic Reaction to something..

Postby Cassie » Wed Aug 15, 2007 6:23 pm

Okay, I will start at the begnning of today..

This morning I went to take Nevaeh out of her kennell and she vomited in it. I did not think anything of it,just cleaned it up and took her to the bathroom. She had diarreah(sp?) and wouldn't eat. (I know what it sounds like but it was not that). She was acting like her normal self.
I came home from work and took her to the bathroom again, no diarreah, but she still didn't eat. I did not notice anything different about her skin until an hour later.
I look down at her and she had bumps ALL OVER her under her hair. So, of course, being me, I freaked out and called the vet. I brought her in RIGHT AWAY.
The vet said that it was an allergic reaction to something and was not sure what. We narrowed down alot of things, because she didn't do anything out of the ordinary today.
Might be mosquitoes or ants I think. The vet gave her a shot of antibiotics and a shot of benedryl.
They sent us home with a prescription called Lincocin 200 mg. I believe it is an antibiotic. I am supposed to give her two tablets twice daily until the bottle runs out.
All in all, after freaking and going to the vet right away, $120 bucks later,
Nevaeh is allergic to something and she is okay.
Her mom is a little stressed out, but thats fine!

Better overreacting than not acting at all. ;) Bugs are a major PITA! I hope your baby girl feels better Cassie.

***UPDATE***

Richard woke up at 4am this morning and noticed Nevaeh's face was swollen. So bad that she could not open her eye.
What the hell could this be?!?!
I brought her to work with me today so I can keep a good eye on her and bring her to her vet which is right next door.

Any ideas?

could it be spider bites? or fire ant bites?? did you take out all her blankets in her crate, wash the entire crate down with white vinegar, and then wash all her blankets in white vinegar as well?? there could be some critter hiding in her crate blankets...

have you put any flea/tick stuff on her within the past 24 hours?

Yes I have washed everything except for one blanket that I put in there while I was washing the other stuff. Have cleaned out her crate but I used a bleach solution(used it plenty of times before). I have not given her any flea/tick medicine or bathed her in any.

I was thinking that, but I have never seen a spider in my apartment before. Maybe the spider just hides really really well! lol

I second (or third?) the spider bites. My parents' schnauzer had this same sort of reaction two times in her life. We suspected a tooth infection, and it actually turned out to be spider bites.
