Yay for neuter!! Booo for $190! wtf?? What all are they charging you for? There are programs in St. Louis that will do it for $10. I bet if you look around, you can find some reduced cost neuter programs in your area. Unless you are okay with paying $190.

Here is the low cost Spay/Neuter thread. Read the first post and check into a neuter certificate.

Are you serious? That's CHEAP.

$350 for a spay here, $280 for a neuter.

Surgery is not cheap. A similar surgery for humans would cost thousands, and the techniques and medicines are very similar.

Hell yeah, those are some insane prices. I think the most I ever paid for a spay was $80 and that included the pre-op bloodwork through a low cost program. I guess MO compared to the rest of the US is super cheap.

The thought of paying $300 would make me ill. How much are adoptions in locations where prices are that high? What do the rescue groups do? Pray for huge donations?

Still do not understand the insane prices though, Friends of Animals allows you to purchase a neuter cert online for $64.00 and I believe there is at least 1 participating vet in most areas. When you pay $300 for a neuter, do they at least have the courtesy to let you lube up first before they bend you over????

Low cost clinics are hugely subsidized. SOMEONE pays for it, it's just not you, the owner. Vets will often donate their time, and somehow funds are raised to pay for the other things, like the anesthesia etc.

Really??? I wish they would do that here in NC! I see so many intact ABPT's it makes me want to stop the guy (it is typically a guy) on the street and say "Do your dogs balls make you feel more manly?"

I was just going to say this. The costs were there, but subsidized. I had two pit/pit mixes done for free because our city paid the cost.
