has the peroxide trick worked for you?

Postby BabyReba » Wed Dec 26, 2007 7:52 pm

tonight doc at a stuffy toy skin. almost whole, from what i can tell. i gave him 2 tablespoons of peroxide to see if i could get him to cough it up. nothing. waited 20 minutes. gave him another 1.5 tablespoon. still nothing.

the peroxide is farily new, i used it to make reba puke a few weeks ago. but doc's acting like he just had a nice meal and he's now taking a nap.

has anyone had the peroxide trick not work before? this is a first for me . . .

Yeah I too had a difficulty with the peroxide when Rufus ate my wedding band. He did a lot of coughing and such, but nothing ever came up. I didn't try as much as you did either. I hope Doc is ok!

maybe it is too old then? every time I have had people tell me it didn;t work, they got a new bottle and that did the trick
can you run up the store, get a fresh bottle and give it another try?
I always put the date I bought the peroxide on the bottle cap and buy a new bottle every 3-4 months to be on the safe side.
Hope he is alright.

Aww, Doc! I've never tried the peroxide trick, but I doubt it would ever work for me since my peroxide is not "new." I was going to ask how old yours was, but I guess you've already said.

My aunt was just telling me about her dog (Standard Poodle) who ate a stuffed animal. The entire giraffe. Apparently (luckily), it ended up coming out the other end. But I know that's not too reassuring. It's hard not to worry.

I hope he does ok. And maybe he's just taking his time puking... maybe it'll come up later? Keeping my fingers crossed for him!

yeah, the peroxide is fairly new, just bought it a coupla weeks ago when we needed to get reba to give us back a bit of a toy she ate. it worked like a charm then, she was puking her guts out within 20 minutes.

he's drooling, so it's having some effect, but he's not puking yet. i'm giving him another hour, then we'll have to try salt.

welcome home, dogs! :po:

Maybe the stuffie is absorbing the peroxide :dunno:

I've never had to use it. But peroxide worked every time my sister used it on her dog.

If they just drool, I give them more. I've never had it not work, though I have had to switch bottle (someone probably left the cap a little loose on one)

I used peroxide when Raisin ( prednisone munchies)ate a box of oreos... and it did nothing.
So the vet suggested trying another dose every 15 minutes until she puked. I gave up after 4 tries, it never worked for her. She apparently has a tough tummy.

Are you mixing it with anything? We tried it with peanut butter.

i gave him another 2 tablespoons and he kept licking his nose and sorta gagging but he managed to fight it back. salt didn't work either. guess he's got an iron stomach.

i'm just going to wait and hope the damn thing comes out normally. it's just a piece of fabric, not the stuffing, so hopefully he'll pass it without a problem. he's eaten worse in the past and managed to get it out.

Hope Doc's ok! I had to give about 4 doses the last time before my dog puked. She hated it but would not puke! I also walked her around in the yard after each dose and she finally vomited.

I hate worrying about what they have eaten and if it will pass thru or get stuck. But the peroxide has always worked eventually. Usually if they are drooling and licking their lips you'll get results soon, or give another dose.

I have had it work every time with Sidney and once with Shades. It has to be fresh, though. One of the reasons we keep a few unopened bottles of peroxide around at all times.
