Needs to gain weight

Postby midnightcowgirl86 » Fri Apr 25, 2008 10:53 am

My 10 month old pup is really hard to keep weight on. I have taken him to the vet and had him all checked out, vet says he's fine and that he's just going to be hard to keep weight on with him being so active. I currently have him on the Diamond Puppy Formula. Does any one have any secrets on putting weight on him and keeping it on??

Do you have pics of the dog? Maybe it's just lean.

So how much does your dog eat, how often?
Does it just get puppy kibble and no wet food? Not that wet food is the answer.
Also remember that, like kids, they grow in spurts and she may just be having a lean/lanky period.
When growth is completed in the bones and joints, weight begins to pack on at that point and the food is being used to bulk up and fill out, rather than grow "upwards".

He gets about a cup and a half 2 times a day, that is just dry food. He must deffantly be hitting his lean/lanky period right now!!

I just remember when my other guy was a pup he was a little butter ball and just grew into it. Maybe just a diffrence in dogs??

Active puppies can stay pretty lean.. You might try a different dog food, Im not sure how attached you are to Diamond but here is a link that helped me out alot on picking out a new dog food..

http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/dog_food_reviews/

Check out the reviews there on Diamond vs some other foods..

Other than that, if the vet says he's ok, and a healthy weight I wouldnt worry too much :) Although I know its awfully hard not to worry about them!
