Copper is sick

Postby msvette2u » Mon Jun 02, 2008 1:39 pm

I don't know what's wrong with Copper.
He ate Milk Chocolate Cherries Saturday evening and yesterday, acted ill, ate poo, ate grass, puked up said poo and grass, then in the middle of the night he vomited again, more poo and grass, is what it looked like.
This AM, I figured he's got to be cleaned out and hungry so I fed him his normal meal, and he looked horrible all AM and then threw up a bit ago. I just got done cleaning that up.
I have an appt. for him at 2:15pm., please say a prayer and think good thoughts for my old doggie. I hope it's nothing serious.
He's still pooping OK and in face had a BM this AM. He has bowel sounds and his stomach is not hard. I don't know why he's puking.

Well I had to leave him there, she's running a ton of bloodwork, I hope his kidneys are OK!
She thought MAYBE it's chocolate toxicity that just took longer to come on??
She's not really sure - she's going to do an Xray and maybe start an IV - I reminded them that when he had his spleen out he tore his IV out of his arm, so don't waste the $$ on an IV if he's going to shred it and rip it out of his arm!
But he was a little dry after throwing up all AM. I told them to also keep in mind Jeff can start one here on him, if necessary...

Anyway - I'm waiting for them to call so I can go pick him up...maybe we'll have an idea of what's wrong now.

I'll keep my fingers crossed that everything is ok. I have a hard time dealing with older dogs when they get sick - I feel so bad for them.

Thanks...it was sad, too, because she came out into the waiting room herself, to get him and she said "Oh boy, that's not Copper...!" because he looked so very sad and depressed.
What's odd is that he didn't have symptoms of bloat, but he was clearly miserable.

pancreatitis!?

Postby msvette2u » Mon Jun 02, 2008 8:56 pm

The vet thinks Pancreatitis!!! :crybaby:

They were going to keep him but I told them, no, I wanted him home, besides, there's nobody there at night, what's the point of that??
So they put in a catheter and sent us home with fluids, and he's NPO for at least 24hrs...

Bloodwork is pending. I'm so worried!!!

My sister's wheaten recovered fully from a very bad bought of pancreatitis, that was likely brought about by him eating something semi-toxic.
Hoping for the best for Copper.
