Koda has mange... HELP

Postby kodasmom » Fri Jul 25, 2008 10:50 am

I took Koda to the vet this morning.... She developed several spots around her eyes and on the side of her face with hair loss. Took her straight to the vet. Did a scrape and came back positive for demodex. She is at the vet now getting a dip...... I didn't know about the ivermectin until just now..... Should I talk to the vet about it??

Yes, talk to the vet as that is not your only choice in treatment.

Though, personally, I had great success with a combination of diet change (to Raw), injectable ivermectin, and sulfur shampoo washes. This was an extreme case, though, where the foster was, literally, bald from head to tail and covered in scabs. I had to keep a sweater on her at all times just so people wouldn't be absolutely repulsed by her (but that just made her look like Freddy Kruger).

You caught it early, though, so you don't have to take such drastic measures. Start with diet and talk to the vet.
