How does your dog feel about thunderstorms?

Postby Mya&theSiebenDackels » Fri Mar 04, 2011 4:43 pm

Poor Charlotte and Buddy hate thunderstorms! We had our first thunderstorm of the year today and they hide under my feet while I was on the computer the entire time.

So, how does your dog feel about thunderstorms?

Make it stop Momma!

Sugar doesn't like thunderstorms. Rowdy doesn't care.
The worst times for Sugar are not thunderstorms, but holidays when lots of fireworks are going off. She's gotten better with thunderstorms over the years. I allow her to be near me, but I don't coddle her when she's frightened. I just go about business normally.

That's a Very Cute picture of Charlotte and Buddy !!!

Emma has "learned" ;) that thunderstorms & fireworks mean PLAY TIME!! and frozen peanut butter/yogurt bones :nana: WoooHooo!! So yeah I made sure she loves them :) Now the metal thingy in the floor with the holes to China (or worse) that rudely blows air into the room? THAT thing is a problem, her solution?...bark at it which doesn't work then give it lots of stink eye cuz it won't quit till spring...

Peanut used to ignore them. Then one day we were outside when it thundered she growled at the thunder. Now sometimes she ignores it but sometimes she starts shaking and climbing into my lap and wants to go outside where oddly enough she sits and watches the storm quietly.

Lala doesn't like them, but it only shows if she is alone in the other room behind the baby gate - she will whine and pace. If she is with us she is fine. Moira doesn't seem to care about them at all.

Ellie is oblivious but Jack pants and paces whenever the atmosphere gets charged up. I can always tell when a storm is coming by the way he acts.

None of mine care at all.

Lucy (RIP) was terrified of thunderstorms her whole life. She'd hide under your feet, in the bathtub, behind chairs, under beds, anywhere she could.

Were just finding out that New Dog(name still pending) is at least agitated by them. Dh had her in his office, on a short break alone outside her crate when some intense lightening thunder sequences started. She started clawing the door and crying. :(. Maybe it's the draw that broke the camels back ( new home and all).

Formerly fearful little Liberty has never cared about storms. Oscar, however, gets very nervous. If I have warning of a storm and remember, I try to give him a dose of melatonin beforehand, and that seems to help him a lot.

Snow has gotten to where they don't bother her. Koi barks at the thunder.

I totally take this back. My new rescue is terrified of storms. I used benedryl last night and it calmed him down.
