Mom & Babies socialization

Postby Amie » Wed Nov 28, 2012 12:48 pm

A bit out of my comfort zone, we got a dog in last week who was too far along in a pregnancy for us to humanely spay. She went immediately to a foster home, had NINE enormous puppies a few days later, and now the foster mom is reporting that doggy mom doesn't want her puppies handled. My first thought is "no chocolate" and to leave the babies the heck alone as long as she's taking care of them (which she is) but this isn't my specialty. I usually deal with the ones without momma! Anyone who's had puppies and moms in this age range have suggestions for healthy socialization of the wee ones?

Is there anyone else around that can help? Like take momma out to potty and have some yums and others go in and handle puppies.

This. And as the pups get older lengthen the time mom is in a different area.
