I have no one to take them. It really surprised me, Val. He caught on pretty quickly. It's cute! lol

a bump for this thread.

doc's newest trick is closing doors. cabinet doors, the gate, etc. and now he's learned to close the back door behind me when i go out into the yard. i'll leave him in the house and hear SLAM! and he will have shut me out. so i have to be careful that the lock is not on when i leave!

he mutters and complains the entire time he does any clicker stuff. i don't know why, i think it sort of stresses him out when he has to figure things out and they aren't shown to him very explicitly.

I am SO SO SO glad this board got bumped! I read all of the pages and have started Lars with the target! He did wonderfully!
I am using a ruler (with some duct tape padding on the tip for comfortable poking) and he caught on in minutes! He got really enthusiastic at one point and started mouthing it but I ignored that and after 2-3 times of being ignored for mouthing it he went back to the nose poke and does it every time, no matter where I move the target (ruler)! I even moved it around a circle to see if he would follow it and he did! Really excited to get to the spinning stage! I think I am going to teach "1 spin" "2 spins" etc :D:D

Wow, I'd never seen this thread before! Any ideas for another project? What about putting all four feet inside a box. We can start with large easy boxes and then see how small we can go! I've heard of people doing this with puppies for agility.

When this first started I had no idea how to take videos, so I felt I couldn't participate and lost interest.

I would love to see this started up again; where we could get walked through a particular training exercise and all practice it over the week!

Here is a video of Lars doing the touch. At this point I haven't introduced the verbal cue yet, as he still needs to perfect it a bit more as you can tell (he lays down lol) He was doing it flawlessly last night but obviously it's still very new and I think we are doing well. :D

Yay! I miss this thread. BabyReba, how did you teach the closing doors trick? Did you use a target on the door? Please elaborate!

Roxy's latest trick is retrieving a frisbee. She actually picked it up much faster than I thought she would, since she is not normal a retriever-type.

Using the same principals, Lars learned how to 'play the piano' :D

Is that Doc looking so sweet while closing the door? I've just added him to my list of dogs that I must have! :))

And Lars on the piano...oh...how cute is that???

Good work guys!!

I am going to start working on the "go to your mat" command from Control unleashed using the clicker. I will try to post some videos for feedback because I'm new to the clicker & I suspect I rather suck at it.
