Meet Bella; our new foster

Why buy from a breeder when there are plenty of homeless pups in shelters???

There shouldnt b any issues now that she is finally healthy. We would have done it sooner but really wanted her healthier and at a good weight.

hmm... well, the vet called and she's got Giardia. They gtave me metronidazone for her for the next 2 weeks and I got to bring them a fecal sample from Cody - hopefully he doesn't have it.

They said it shouldn't affect the spay surgery itself, but to let the clinic know so they can take appropriate procedures to disinfect.

Violet -
FYI, since she was at your house for a spell, keep an eye out for symptoms.

Yeah, we were wondering also... but then again, she was a puppy with a compromised immune system who was also emaciated so any kind of contact probably gave the buggers a foothold. But keep an eye on your guys - according to google symptoms include weight loss, diarrhea and blood in stool - assuming there are any obvious signs. She, frankly, has not shown ANY of the symptoms; poo is normal in all respects and nothing else was obvious to me but the vet report said that in the sample there were 'too many to count' so she's heavily infected.

Also, it may be transmitted to humans (looks like there is no firm data so just err on the side of caution which means wash your hands (and raw food of course)).

We've only spent about $200 including food to date; no worries, that was part of the commitment we knew we were getting into.

Just let me know where/when I need to bring her for the spay appointment (we can do this in PM or phone) but please do let the clinic know - they'll want to take measures to ensure others don't get infected.

yeah..im not sure how they will handle that because of the type of clinic it is. They may want to wait *sighs* cross your fingers.

The last case of Giardia I can even think of was WELL over a year ago. Even of the dogs who passed through. We did get two shelter dogs early this month. But neither of them were or have been ill or showing any signs. And she was at the vet clinic for the 4 weeks prior to her one night here. I am sorry...poor kid doesn't need any health issues. Even short term.

Phew.... just got a call from the Vet... Cody is negative for infection :peace:
And she's on the mend, the sun is coming out (yes... in Seattle no less!) now if it was only a weekend :)

Well, she's finished her medication & everything looks like it's cleared up; now just need to get her spayed & chipped & she'll be ready for her new home.

Patience.... The weather's finally been nice and we're doing our best to take advantage of it. Here's some new ones for you, haven't had a chance to touch them up yet, but to appease the mob :))

Oh Hi... you wanted to see me?
