Miami Dade Animal Services, any experiences?

Why buy from a breeder when there are plenty of homeless pups in shelters???

Miami Dade Animal Services, any experiences?

Postby nygemma » Sat Sep 26, 2009 8:59 pm

I live up in Broward County, because I own a pitbull. I can't believe how many pitbulls are listed as available on Miami Dade Animal Services website. If the ban there restricts them, how are so many available? Are they being adopted out only if you prove you don't live in Dade? Does anyone have any experience adopting from there? Any info is appreciated. It's shocking, do the Broward groups go down and get the pitbulls outta there? Is the "death row" rate huge in Dade for pitbulls?
I feel if I go there to look I'm gonna come home with 5 dogs....

There are so many available because in spite of bans, people still behave stupidly and get a pit bull and sometimes some wander in from other areas I am sure. But they wont' adopt them to someone living in the banned area.

I'm up in Palm Beach and we get dogs from there QUITE often! We just pulled an emaciated white girl from there last week. As far as I know, they are listed on there so rescues have a chance to see what dogs are available. Pit bull friendly rescues tried VERY hard to get their pictures listed, as they weren't before. Yes, they are extremely high kill. If you want to help, please let me know...I'm in desperate need of foster homes so I can get more dogs out of there!

That really is disturbing to see. I don't know how someone could let a dog get into that kind of shape.

I'm so glad I posted here. First of all, there is an amazing white male with a giant black eye patch in miami dade now, he looks so gorgeous.
Second of all, maybe I could help by fostering. I have never done that before, but I want to save these pitbulls, but have been scared to add a third dog to my house. I will PM you...
