Sacchi - she needs all the help she can get

Why buy from a breeder when there are plenty of homeless pups in shelters???

Sacchi - she needs all the help she can get

Postby Amy Hendrickson » Fri Oct 16, 2009 5:21 pm

Please pass this around, she needs all the help she can get to find a home with her now missing leg (and the fact that she's just a plain non descript brindle pup)

Sacchi was found in Petersburg VA by a nice policeman. She had a badly broken back leg and was so happy to see him and get help. He took her to a the shelter and she was transferred to a vet clinic. Since her leg was too badly broken to be splinted, we opted to have it amputated. She is now a three legged girl with one back leg missing. The break was at the top of the femur and was in too many pieces.

Despite having a collar and tags, her owners never showed up to claim her or even find out what happened to their puppy. She's about 4 and a half months old. She has now been spayed and vaccinated and is in foster care in Harrisonburg VA. Sacchi is going to be a smaller sized pit bull when she finishes growing. She will likely only be about 35-40 lbs. Her pictures and video were taken today (10/15/2009) post surgery, there will be new ones soon.

She's a sweet brown brindle puppy with some white on her chest and toes. She's pretty laid back. Loves attention and treats. She is crate trained and very quiet in her crate. She's had to endure it a lot in her healing time. She is being fostered in a home with other dogs and is learning her manners and social skills. She is a really sweet puppy. She's spayed, fully vaccinated and on Hw prevention.

Oh I wish! Managing a three dog home might be a bit of a stretch for me though :( She's missing the same leg as Ruger.

Sacchi's doing well, she's two weeks post surgery and starting her second round of antibiotics. the lower part of her stump healed well but the upper part seems a bit red and still has an occasional weeping episode. She's a little afraid of other dogs when they approach her in her bed or when she's on the couch. I can't quite tell if it's resource guarding behavior or if she's afraid that she can't get away. There's definitely some "uncertainty" look in her eyes but she responds to their presence with a growl if they are facing her. Not sure how to address that and if it will go away once she's a little bit bigger and more comfortable moving around on three legs. She doesn't seem to have mobility issues but I'm sure she knows it's gone and it may make her feel more vulnerable.

Could she still be in pain and it's causing her to be wary of the other dogs?
