Looking for foster in MD! ADOPTED!

I volunteer at the BARCS animal shelter in baltimore, md., and there is a dog that has been there since January that really needs help. I have shared him on this site a few times before. His name is Bacardi, and when he first got into the shelter at the end of Jan., he had so much spunk! He would cuddle up with you, play with you, and greet you at his kennel wagging his tail and bright eyed. Now he seems to be losing his spunk after over 2 months of shelter life, and it is really breaking my heart. Instead of playing with you out in the run and having a good time, he paces around and has been eating a lot of grass, and that's all he's interested in. When you greet him at his kennel, he just gazes up at you now, not that bright eyed greeting I'm used to seeing. Bacardi is just the best dog, and I've known him since the day he was brought in, and I know if he got into a foster situation he'd be so much better off. I'm not sure if there's anyone around here that would be able to foster him, but I'm not sure how much time he could have left with the way he's starting to go downhill. Please help if you can! I would foster him if I could, but with having another dog and living in an anti-pit bull community, it just isn't possible. Bacardi got an application tonight - and it's all thanks to you, Brittany!

I was escorting a woman who said she wanted one that we were close to putting down, one who wasn't a puppy, one who needed a chance. Because you spoke to me about him, I asked her to take a look at Bacardi - and she fell in love. I don't know if her application was finalized, but I wanted to be sure you knew that it was because of YOU Bacardi got that chance.

We have 600 animals and it's a full day if there are ten of us working with them - usually there are fewer of us. That means we don't get to spend as much time with all the animals as we'd like. There are a few that stand out to each of us, but if an animal isn't one of them, it's very easy for those temperament changes that you mentioned to go relatively unnoticed. Because you spoke to me, I knew a little more about Bacardi, and that he needed that extra push, so I could help him out.

Hopefully, it got him a home!

That's so great Amie! Thank you so much! I was told when I first started volunteering there to not get emotionally attached to the dogs, but you just can't help it. And that allows you to pick up on things like that. I'm so happy that Bacardi may find a home! I think it's near impossible to meet that dog and not fall in love, hehe. How was he acting when you had him out?

And Amie's right, there are soooo many more dogs that need fostering! Bacardi just happened to be a dog that I was highly familiar with that I could see changing, but don't think it doesn't happen to other dogs too!
