Canidae Feeders, question for you

Postby bahamutt99 » Fri Jul 04, 2008 3:57 pm

I've been checking in regularly and reading the discussion in this thread about Canidae changing their ingredients. I was wondering how many are going to be sticking with Canidae through this, and how many are going to feed something different.

Eh, I wasn't sure how to answer between "Yes" and "Wait and See."

Kane has been on Canidae for close to 2 years now and has done great on it. I'm not too worried about the ingredient changes, plus Kane probably won't get a new bag for another month or two. A 40 lb bag used to last around 2 months, but he's on Canidae and Raw now, so his Canidae consumption has been cut it 1/2 almost.

I'm going to stick with Canidae as long as Kane still does well on it. If his health changes, or there happens to be some recall (knock on wood), we're changing to all Raw.

Canidae really works for my dogs, great coat and nice poop. I think I'll just observe and see if there's anything wrong on the later products.

I plan to continue feeding it unless I see changes in my dogs that change my mind.

This is the same for us. I am keeping my fingers crossed that it works as well for them.

I'm not currently feeding Canidae, but I did a few months ago and the dogs got itchy from it (I think it was the Sunflower Oil). I thought I read someone saying it got moved farther down the ingredient list, so I might give it a try in the future if TOTW doesn't work out.

Yeah, I'm somewhere between the first and 3rd answers, so I voted "wait and see." I think we're already feeding the new formula, and have seen some more light-colored poops. If anything else changes, I'll consider a different feed. I figure my dogs'll let me know if they need something different.

I use to feed it...I suggest the food to lots of friends....
But, I won't be doing that anymore. Not because of the formula change but due to them using Diamond as manufacturing. Diamond scares me....I know I know...they may have upgraded their facility's and do better testing etc...But well, I am going to trust my paranoid gut...

Yup, we will continue to feed Canidae. We have been feeding the Lamb and Rice for the last couple of months and it has been working great for us.[/i]

I voted 'Wait and see' tho I am continuing to feed what I have - so I meant keep feeding but watching like a hawk. I may be feeding the new formula already - I bought the bag about 2 months ago...(?) I did a lot of research to end up happily with Canidae. I haven't noticed any changes tho, however. Ruby's poops are still as frequent and big as normal and I haven't seen any color change. I'm nervous about the Diamond connection but after the last little 'issue' I they could not survive as a company if they did not make some major and preventative changes, so I feel pretty safe ATM. Formula change - I did notice more fiber - seems more pertinent to me than the risk of cross contamination in the plant.

Its interesting to note that dogfoodanalysis.com still rates the ALS feed a 5-star, where the L&R and C&R are a 4-star, and the platinum is only a 3-star.

I have a couple of friends who feed the ALS formula. They are adopting the wait and see approach.

I feed ALS- did that one change too?

Anyway, my dog is not sensitive to food at all, he could eat anything and be fine, so I won't worry unless something is wrong.

I'm going to wait & see.

So far Canidae has worked out better than Merrick & Wellness.

I still feed the Hill's Prescription z/d ultra wet.

Honestly it all makes my head spin :frown:
