Luce had a big fat bandage on her leg following surgery, which, to be honest, I liked a great deal. It gave her support and it made me less afraid.

She worked the woe thing pretty hard.

The only hitch with bring her to work is that I work at a dog kennel, LOTS of barking. I could keep her in the bathroom probably, but she could still hear/smell dogs.

Well, we went for our consultation today. I decided to go with the traditional repair. Something about cutting the bone and altering things like that just doesn't sit well with me. With the traditional she only has to stay at the hospital for that day and she's out the next. I'm so nervous, but excited that she will finally be happy again. The vet office was beautiful, the vets were great and everyone loved Ashes. Actually, every single person that walked by her petted her. Thanks for helping with the leash pulling guys! She's getting surgery on Wednesday. The biggest thing is the physical therapy afterwards, since she's had this injury for so long, the chances of the other leg getting torn are higher then they already are.

..They will look at the meniscal while they are in there too. So paws crossed that isn't torn.

Oh yea one more thing.

Get a bag of frozen peas lol

We used that on her leg to help minimize the brusing and swelling. I just used it the first 2 days.

Also, get some Emu oil or Vitamin E caps (just puncture with a needle). I used this on Zoe's surgery scar to help accelerate the healing.

Oh yea! Forgot about the peas and the Emu oil!! The oil works great, you can barely see Martins scars.

She is out of surgery and everything went well! :))

She's waking up right now, I really wish I could be there for her.

They suggested I buy a muzzle for the physical therapy (leg extensions), were other people recommended this? Is it simply because she's a pit bull? I guess she may have done something that made them nervous. I doubt she'd bite me, but I guess better safe then sorry...

If she is uncomfortable with the leg extensions a muzzle might make it easier. One was not suggested to me and I didn't need one. All dogs react to pain differently though.

This is a useful thread which I found on a search for info about cruciate surgeries.

My 8 yr old spayed female tore her cruciate ligament and had surgery for it almost 2 months ago. She had the traditional repair and is doing pretty well with her recovery. The hard part is keeping her quiet now that she feels better. I am thinking it will be about 6 months before she is completely recovered and can run off leash as I do not want her to re-injure her leg.

How did the surgeries and recoveries go for the dogs in this thread? Any updates?
