Got Helena to the vet!

Postby Shes Got Heart » Fri Oct 17, 2008 3:33 pm

I got Helena to the vet yesterday. My doc didn't charge me. He checked her leg and yep its a torn acl :frown: She is having surgery next Thursday. My doc is going to let me make payments for it. He's making an exception for me because I used to work for him. He said she won't be able to do weight pull or anything like that after she's healed and fixed. He said she will still be able to do normal dog things but not anything extra or out of the ordinary. So out with my weight pulling dreams for her. :frown: But atleast we are going to get this fixed and she will be back to her old self in a few months.

Poor baby!!

I'm sorry about the weight pulling...but at least she'll be able to handle normal activities...and won't have to live with any pain.

Well, there's always obedience. That's not too high-stress, so it's not a total loss. Glad she's getting fixed up. :)

Yeah I bawled:crybaby: after I got out of the clinic and back into my car. She showed a lot of promise as a pulling dog. They have obedience competitions for unregistered dogs? Or do I need to get that limited registration to do that? I also want to go the therapy dog route too. Shes got to be on crate rest for 10 days after the surgery. Than doc says she'll need short walks for rehabilitation for about a month. I know she'll be just fine. After all..... Shes got heart. :) I'll save those weight pull dreams for my future dog.

You can do the limited reg for UKC, maybe AKC too if you don't mind calling her an AmStaff. And of course, there's always the CGC which requires no registration. Laura and I have been talking for a while about trying to get a TT test down here. I volunteered myself and Lonney to run stations as long as we can get our own dogs tested. There'll be something to do. :)

i'm sorry. it's frustrating when dogs blow knees. i feel your pain. luce was supposed to be my sport dog but she's torn both knees. we still do rally and that's fun, but i'd wanted to do more.
