She was a rescue dog and was acquired from American Pit Bull Rescue in Baton Rouge, LA when I lived there. When she was young, the people who owned her messed up cropping her ears (did a homemade job which has since been almost completely fixed by a vet) and decided they didn't want her so they threw her out of a moving car. Someone in the military that lived on base rescued her and found out after a year of having her that pit bulls were not allowed on base because of their 'reputation' (go figure). She had to get rid of Ortega, and we took her in. She's a great dog, extremely smart and obedient.
In the past, I have owned a Shar-Pei, a Shar-Pei / Pit mix (beautiful dog), german shepards, and more big dogs. I'm a sucker for big dogs
I'm currently contemplating getting either another pit, a Neapolitan or French Mastiff, or an English Bulldog.
