Hi! New...1st adoption experience

Hi everyone,

I live 5minutes from downtown Pittsburgh. I dont have a Pitbull yet but I made my first attempt at adopting one yesterday. All of the puppies at the Humane Society were already adopted so i decided to look at 2 of the older ones. I have a Lab/Retriever Mix that is 3 yrs old so I had to bring her along to see if the dogs would be ok living together.

The 3 yr old female Pit seemed to be ok at first but then eventually snapped at my dog. The 1yr old male was very aggresive with her from the get go so we decided not to take it any further.

The people at the humane society and I decided it would be best to get a pitbull puppy, so that it can grow up and respect the other dog. So all in all i'm rather disappointed but not giving up and going to wait for the kennel to get in some more puppies.

Welcome to the board! Have you tried looking at pit bull rescue central or petfinder? I'm sure you'll find plenty of pit bull puppies that are available.

Welcome to the board! Nice folks, here and very, very knowledgeable. Boo's suggestion to try PetFinders or a pit bull rescue is a good one. Even a well brought up and well socialized pit bull puppy can grow up to be dog aggressive. There are no guarantees because dog aggression is in their make up. But a good rescue will be able to steer you towards adult pits who have shown they can play well with others. Good luck!

I agree with Boo, a Pit Bull rescue may be the way to go to find a puppy. Good luck with your search!

thanks for the link, most sites ive checked do not have any that are young enough. I'm looking for 6 months or younger. Thanks a lot for all the help!

It's a shame you are so far away, pitbullpride has a whole litter of pit bull pups that will be up for adoption in about a month or so. They are cute, too!

I know, it seems the adoption places around here have tons of them 1 yr and above. Most of the sites i've seen don't have any within a reasonable distance of Pittsburgh.
