Not good news...

I noticed a lump on Shay and her vet appointment was this morning. My vet did take a needle to the lump. He said Shay has a mast cell. :crybaby:

We have a appointment with a Oncologist on March 4th.

My friend's pup had a few mast cell tumors removed over several years. Besides the surgery scars, she had no side effects.

I'm also curious where the mass is? Is there a reason why you were referred to oncology, rather than your regular vet removing the mass? Is it in a spot that would be hard to get good margins?

The mass is on her right thigh. My vet did the needle biopsy and did not like what he saw. He forwarded his findings onto the oncologist. When setting up Shays app for March, the tech said he(oncologist) will check Shay as well. Nothing was said yet about removal, but he did bring up chemo. I will not know anymore until March.

How big is it?

Streets had a mast cell tumor removed a year and a half ago from his side. It was just a simple removal done by my regular vet, with only local anesthetic even. It was sent to the pathologist to be graded, but that was pretty much the end of the story.

I wish you guys the best luck possible dealing with this. :hug:
