Mast cell worries

Postby tiva » Tue Dec 29, 2009 4:02 pm

I'm worried about my elderly Tiva, who is 14 now. Two springs ago she had a large mast cell tumor develop on her tail. They removed it, but couldn't get clean margins and it was a high grade 2, so her tail was then amputated. She has had 2 great years, and while she sleeps more than when she was a kid, she's still tough as a battleax. She runs around each day, plays with our young pittie each day, and loves to lie in the sun. She's had a number of new lumps appear, and each year we've had them aspirated, and they've been clean, clear of mast cells. But now she has a few more lumps that are worrying me, along her spine, and I'm putting off calling the vet to have cells drawn from them to check for new cancer. I guess I'm afraid that we'll find out the cancer has returned, and I'm not sure what we'll do them--more surgeries? Chemo?

Oh well, after the holiday weekend, I guess I'll call the vet. Wish us luck! I hate cancer.

Here she is, last spring, looking muscular: http://lh4.ggpht.com/_ekS7w99xb2I/SwgrVyS4amI/AAAAAAAABBI/u2IFWFTZjfI/s800/juneau2lynne.jpg

Here she is that same spring day, looking happy (as always):

Cancer sucks,,,,I am sorry to hear of your worries....

We also are fighting MCT right now. Bella is 4 years old. I have decided against anything invasive as in Chemo, radiation,,,,etc....I got on board with a Holistic healer (thanks to Cinderdee and Concreterose),,,,and all is going well. Bella is on a Cancer diet,,,and there is a treatment we will turn to if and when her "lumps" rear their ugly head.
I am open to share her diet if you like, as well as who we are using....PM me if you like.

This is the same route I went with Shay. It is almost a year now since we found out she has MCT.

Thanks for all your well wishes! She'll have her teeth and bumps checked next week, when we get back to town. I would be interested in learning more about the special cancer diets.
