It is so weird that you asked today of all days. Po'Boy is now called Jojo Boudin. He had been doing amazingly well but got sick with vomiting and diarrhea and had to go into the vet today where they kept him all day. The cause of the illness is not known but there are some things that are raising red flags and making us worry. Jojo is still anemic and while he improved a lot at first, it seems his numbers aren't so great again with this recent illness. It could be a number of things but right now he is being treated with steroids so we will see how that goes. They did let him go home tonight and the next couple of days should tell us a lot. So think good thoughts for him!

In the meantime... some pics... The first two are from a couple of weeks ago and the second two are more recent. I haven't seen him in person but am blown away by how good he looks in the photos!

Jojo is very cute, and I'm glad that he is getting the care he needs. I hope he pulls through this latest health hurdle quickly. I wanted to say that Jojo appears to be a Presa Canario. They are a type of mastiff that comes in various shades of fawn and brindle. The breed tends toward same-sex dog aggression most commonly, but they can be completely DA, and now and then you get an individual who is not DA at all. They are very sweet with the people they love, but don't be surprised if a little guarding instinct comes out of him as he gets better (although it may not, with all the BYBs breeding these mastiff types lately I am seeing more without the proper temperament). He does look like a sweet guy though. We have a presa canario at our rescue (http://www.foha.org) who really doesn't have much of the proper breed temperament (although he is a little DA), but he is very sweet and well-behaved.

ETA: Come to think of it, with that "blue fawn" coloration (the presa breed doesn't come in "blue" fawn, just fawn), he could be a Cane Corso/Presa Mix, or APBT/presa mix. People are mixing these breeds up a lot these days. :/

Update on Jojo: The vets ran a PCR test and it turns out he is positive for babesia. Poor guy . At least now we know what is going on and can move forward in terms of making him as healthy as possible. I am pretty sure there are some folks on this board that have dealt with it, so I am off to do a search and send some pms. Thanks for all the good thoughts for him!

That says that is found with particular significance to racing greyhounds and pit bull terriers.

It sounds terrible, and the treatment options sound kind of terrible too

Poor Jojo, I hope he can pull through it.
