For my 23rd birthday I bought myself two pitbull puppies. I've always loved dogs and my Pedigreed, $300 Siberian Husky had run away about a year previous to this. My mom and I both had a hard time with that and my Mom refused to get another dog after that, but I couldn't resist looking into buying another dog since I love them so much.
I called one person who had an ad in the paper about some pit bulls, who went at $100 each. She had three left, all females, but the biggest one wasn't for sale- they wanted to keep her. It was apparent all I had left was the last two that no one else wanted.
One was the runt. Skinnier and smaller than the other two, it was pretty clear this little puppy would never grow up to be a fearsome guard dog. The other was standoffish, shy, and seemed afraid of people- to this day I think she got in trouble for something and whoever was at the house yelled at her or hit her, and she learned to be afraid of humans right off the bat. But while this one lacked a warming personality, she made up for in all the good genetic qualities of a good pit bull- big head, thick neck and shoulders, big paws and huge jaw.
The runt approached me right away, and it was love at first sight. Even though she doesn't live with me now, it's very apparent to everyone that I'm her favorite, and I always had been since we first met. There was no way I could keep going to different places for pits after meeting this little girl. So there it was- I was taking the runt. But something inside felt something for the shy, socially inept puppy who stayed off to the side. I couldn't possibly leave her here too. She needed a good home.
So $200 less in my pocket, I was off with not one, but two pit bull puppies. My Mom was pissed and I got in trouble like a 10 year old would. She even "sicced" my Dad on me- which means she meant business.
2 hours later, my Mom fell for them and wanted to keep them
3 years later and she keeps them exclusively- but my folks and I are close, and I visit "the girls" all the time.
Here's Luz, the "runt":
Here's Paz, who was initially shy but has developed a great personality after living with us:

Luz can't take a picture without making some weird face.
Hello everyone and thanks for having me.

Luz and Paz are beautiful girls!!!
Welcome to the board!
