If I ever adopted a dog that had a very odd look to him... Especially if he had resource guarding, I think I'd name him Sméagol.

I did Waffles & Pancakes for a pair of puppies once. Foods are my favorite theme for litters. Salsa, Burrito, Fajita, Nacho, Taco, Churro. Eggroll, Tofu, Wonton, Lo Mein, Chow Mein, General Tso. Hummus, Falafel, Olive, Pita, Sesame, Chickpea. You can get pretty funny with them.

Male names:
Arlo, Buckshot, Dexter, Freeway, Geronimo, Hemmy, Hoagie, Jackpot, Marbles, Pablo, Pirate, Puxico, Rhino, Satchi, Seamus, Shotgun, The Doctor (after Doctor Who), Tugboat

Female names:
Arwen, Augie, Fancy, Frenchie, Ladybird, Pancha, Peepers, Roadie, Tiki, Valkyrie

Just a small sampling of my name collection

It is pretty well proven that names such as, peanutbutter and jelly, that suggest a bonded pair only cause the animals to be adopted slower because people don't want to break them up.

Really? Where is that proven? It's not been my experience at all.

I love "smarty pants" names, Dexter, Eliot, Addison, ect.
My next dog, no matter the breed will have a western type name though.
Cowboy, Weston, Hoyt (favorite), Dixie... something along those lines.

Nathan Winograd had a source cited when I saw him talk last weekend. People don't want to split up the named pair and adopt a different kitten. When someone finally does split them up, the leftover kitten/puppy gets adopted soon after.

It's also been my personal experience as well. Cute pair names just aren't a good idea.

I don't remember the source he mentioned but I'm sure it was not a scientific study.

I have Starbuck reserved for the right dog that comes along down the line =)

I like food names, as well. I have a Green Bean and Strawberry. Fostered two orange kittens that I named Carrot and Vindaloo (they were renamed Marley and Simba - gag!).

Book characters are another favorite.

I like the name Ichabod. I remember someone here had a rescue with a bad case of mange they named that so that they could call him Icky. He was so handsome when he got over the mange, and I just like the name so hopefully I'll remember it when I need a name.

I'll definitely have to use Ichabod this year - I love that name, and it's cute around Halloween!

I named a mini poodle Quarterback today. He was spotted running down the road with a stuffed football in his mouth. He was FIXATED on that football. It was super cute.
