Stinky Breath

Apollo is off to the vet tomorrow, he has had stinky breath for a week now.

I can't see anything wrong with his teeth, his gums look good. He is behaving normally, none of his diet has changed.

Hopefully it is nothing!

Vet looked over his mouth and had the dental specialist at the clinic do the same. Nothing wrong with his teeth/gums.

So they think it may be because of his change of food (I have been slowly switching him to another brand). We will see!

Bad digestion can hugely affect breath.

If teeth are good then stress and bad digestion are 2 things I look at next.
I use a all vegetable sourced probiotic/digestive enzyme and some yucaa to help with digestion.

I have 2 freind whose dog gets stressed get stress colitis and besides the multiple soft poops his breath smells like death!!!

How does Apollo do at the vet?

I dunno! That is what the vet thought.
He has had pretty bad gas and bad breath, those have been the only symptoms. And there has been no change in his appetite, energy, chewing ability, etc.

He does okay, shows stress signs (licking the door/his lips, pacing, yawning, etc while waiting in the room) but most disappear when the vet comes in and he gets all wiggly. He isn't a big fan of being poked and prodded (he shows signs of avoidance) but the vet goes slow and we make sure it is really positive for him.
But it isn't 'I have to drag you in screaming' stress, just minor 'I am in a new place' stress.

The vet said to try adding plain greek yogurt to his diet and see how that goes.

Apollo will do tricks for a piece of paper so he slurped up the yogurt like nobodies business.

She did mention kidney diseases and wants me to bring in some urine and will draw some blood if it doesn't clear up. But he is not showing any other symptoms, so I hope it is just the change of diet

Nope! Thanks goodness! He is always attended when outside so no chance of him sneaking a bite.

I am sure he would be showing other sysmtpoms if it was his kidneys, ( excessive H2O/ drinking, dark urine, more frequent urine making.

Green tripe is rumored to help with bad breath, and while it may be just a coincidence, I've experienced it myself.

So Apollo's breath is still stinky, his gas is pretty much gone, but his anal glands are leaking. And it went from being white discharge to brown. His stools are normal. Is it normal for anal discharge to change colors? I am worried and going to make another vet appointment. Maybe his stink breath is from him licking his behind?
