The dermatologist who spoke to my husband was not exactly clear about the condition so today I spoke to Dr. Angus and the news are a bit different. They do not know which kind of dermatophyte is involved, because the fungal culture did not grow anything, most likely because Sneaky was already on Fluconazole. So, they do not now if it is contagious or not and the treatment for deep infections can last for 12 months, where milder conditions require 2 to 4. She is already responding to the two drugs combination so hopefully we won't have to go that long.So, Sneaky has to wear babysocks to prevent any shedding and she needs fungal cultures to be negative 3 times in a row (one a month) to make sure this crappy thing is gone. I am monitoring the other dogs and I vacuum like crazy daily, so hopefully nobody gets anything.

It's a battle because she moves a lot. At times, when it looks I am about to loose that battle.....hypoallergenic gentle tape.
I can't bandage it and risk moisture so it has to be socks.
I got her some Mickey Mouse baby socks today, she can't dare to take those off!

Oh I am so happy to see fungus vs cancer! Sneaky Bastard of the Spores. She's come a long way from being chubby lil Snickers....

Thank goodness. Oh, and B had to wear a sock once after a surgery. I used electrical or a thinner strip of duct tape over the top band if the sock (not on his fur, just on the sock, and the foot part was still all breathable) to help keep the sock on the foot.

Awww.... the two girls look like twins with their matching Elizabethan collars! At work we used to call dogs with those soft cones "Puppy flowers"... because the looked like the paper flowers you make in school as a kid.

Socks are great. Taffy wore a sock for quite some time too, after her foot was no longer bandaged completely due to her ripping out her toe nail, but still needed a month to heal completely....

I found out when Roscoe had his ganglion cyst surgery that painter's tape works really well when you run out of medical-type tape if you need to tape the socks to help them stay on.

Would fleece booties work? You can buy them from dogbooties.com for $2.50 apiece. I have their regular cordura booties and they stay on pretty well. They just have a strip of velcro around the top, nothing magical, but inexpensive and they make my life easier during mud season
