Eye infection

Rocky has had an eye infection for about a week now it has just spread to the other eye. they are red and oozing green junk. I have been flushing with saline and holding hot compresses on it. I have ordered an eye ointment from over seas because you normally have to have a prescription for it.

has anyone experienced anything similar or have any ideas.

I would schedule a vet appointment asap, and I would not self medicate.

You definitely need to see a vet. Eye problems are never something to wait around with. Treating with the wrong ointment can really mess up the eyes too. Your vet can stain the eye to look for corneal ulcers and prescribe an appropriate medication.

Please take your dog to the vet for an accurate diagnosis and proper treatment. You can cause more damage by self medicating with the wrong ointment.

If your dog develops an ulcer from the infection, or a scratch from rubbing the eye and you administer the wrong ointment, your dog could develop severe ulceration and lose the eye. I've seen it happen in 48 hours when owners didn't think it was a big deal.

The surgery to save a ruptured eye runs about $2500 and the surgery to remove a blind and worthless eye is about $600-1200 depending on your area.

Don't play Russian roulette with your dogs vision. It could be nothing or it could be REALLY serious.

the vet said it was just allergies because there was no scratch that they could see and scratches are not contagious so it wouldnt be in both eyes. he was prescribed to a antibiotic-allergy-steroid ointment to clear up infection if there is any and to take down redness and inflamation.

Thats great, I'm glad it wasn't a more serious issue! Does it look like its improved any today since you've started the prescription?

almost completely gone. im going to continue to use the medication for a little while longer.

no the vet said 10 days and gave me a refill just in case
