Hello from Philly!

Hey everyone,

My name is Christine and I am 25 living right outside of Northeast Philly. In October, my boyfriend and I bought a house together and we knew that we wanted to get a dog. He always had a Weimaraner growing up so we planned on rescuing one from the TriState Weim Rescue. After applying and waiting several months with no word of when/if we would be getting one, we decided to go with plan B- go to a shelter. I began looking online and fell in love with several pitbulls. We went to the Animal Care and Control Team in Philadelphia and came home with a 10 month old pit named Huckleberry Finn (Huck for short). He was found in an abandoned house and taken to the shelter where he had been for almost 2 months.

We absolutely love Huck and he provides us with lots of entertainment, including jumping right onto the kitchen table! He is smart, funny and pretty goofy. Since we love him so much, we decided to get him a sister. We are going back to the shelter on Sunday to let him pick out his new friend We are so excited to have two dogs to enjoy.

Aww your pic doesn't work, maybe privacy settings. Thanks for adopting! Have you done any reading into multiple dog homes? Pit bulls are prone to dog aggression and it often doesn't show up until they mature so it's not a good idea to get "playmates" if that's what you are after. If you want a 2nd dog that's fine, but occasionally it happens that dogs stop getting along and need to be kept 100% apart, it's called crate and rotate. If you are ok with that possibility go for it, take some precautions, I would get an older adult female who's personality is more set than a puppy, don't leave any toys, treats, food around for them to fight over and don't leave them together unsupervised. If you are gone crate one or both dogs or put them up in separate bedrooms.

Thanks for the information! It's been very helpful. I plan on having them crated right now, at least until they are older. I was wondering if you thought I should crate them in the same room or in separate rooms when we are at work?

Also, we are taking him with us to pick out the new dog in the hopes that he will get along really well with one of the dogs at the shelter. We never leave food around and we also never leave Huck unsupervised so that definitely won't change I will put his toys away though, that's a good idea to avoid conflict.
