Thanks guys. The doctors are thinking HGE more than pancreatitis.

The worst part about this whole thing is that even though she is worth every single penny she has cost me, this has seriously cut into our Fix-Her-Leg budget. :(

I need a second job.

Great news that she's feeling a bit better and likely coming home tonight! :)

Did she have the tell tale raspberry jam diarrhea? Ellie's had HGE twice now - it is very scary, especially the first time when you don't know what is going on.

She didn't have ANY diarrhea with me. She was just lethargic and wouldn't eat. She vomited once early Saturday morning and then she started vomiting blood on Monday evening. She didn't have bloody diarrhea until late Monday night at the clinic. She hasn't pooped since.

She still seems dull, not her normal self, but I'm hoping she will perk up once we get home.

On the plus side, 48 hours of crate rest and daily laser treatments have done wonders for her torn ligament! I'm super paranoid about doing the surgery now since she does SO poorly with anesthetic and sedation.

I'm just so happy she is coming home and doing better. I plan on keeping her around for many more years.

OH man your stories of Buddy (and even her pics) remind me so much of my old lady Dolly...It's been more than a year and I'm still in debt for her care but I'd do it again in a heartbeat. Old dogs can be such a freaking roller coaster ride. I sometimes feel ripped off I only got to enjoy Dolly for 2.5 years and some jackass who didn't deserve her got to have her in her prime, but I know she was happy with me. You're an amazing mom to Buddy! You're both so lucky.

OMG Dolly looks so much like Buddy, you're right!

I could never put a price on her.

Ellie had one of her bouts of HGE shortly after a dental so we wondered if anesthetic may have played some sort of role but since there is no KNOWN cause of HGE, only suspicions, a few of the vets that treated her felt it is likely related to her body having been nearly starved to death (she was found by Libby in NM very, VERY close to death) before she came to us.

Great news about the improvements in Buddy's knee! I'll be continuing to send her lots of healing thoughts.

Spoke too soon. Buddy can't have metacam while her GI tract is healing so she's only on tramadol and she's super lame. :(

I just want this to be over and her to be better.

Good Lord, Allison, just done reading the whole thread. I am very sorry this is happening, it is a lot all in once, emotionally and financially. I feel the same about our dogs, when it comes to what they are worth, and Buddy has a good mom. Sending very good thoughts your way.

The ultrasound specialist is going to be at the clinic today so I'm going to have an ultrasound done one Buddy, even though she's doing great, just to be sure there's no underlying issues.
