'My name is Newton Lewis Erickson and I have an addiction to eating tennis balls. I had been clean for 42 days but i had to eat a ball this week. So because of my actions I am looking at a partial blockage and a possible surgery. My mom is PISSED, I got in my sister's training bag overnight and ate it and left no evidence until I puked all on her bed and sprayed diarrhea in her room while she was at work. The worst part is this is my 6th surgery......now my mom wont stop sticking me with needles. Help me.'

Im going to flippin kill this dog. I mean seriously?!?! His last exploratory and scope was 42 freakin days ago. You would think I literally am feeding him balls and my house is a wreck but it is NOT! URGHHHHH seriously the only thing I could be doing different is him wearing a basket muzzle permanently and that isnt gonna happen.

Uggghhhhh. I'm so sorry, I feel your pain.

My friend has a dog who has had a billion health issues, including pica, and multiple blockage surgeries. She now wears a super customized black (she's black so it blends in) Jafco muzzle pretty much 24/7. One has cute purple leopard fake fur on it. It sucks because she's a suuuuper friendly dog and often people are afraid bc of the muzzle, but after over 10k of medical bills it's just time to prevent anything that can possibly be prevented and deal with all the strange stuff she is prone to. We call her muzzle "Darth." <3 It was really hard to make this decision. I tell you this just so you know you're not alone in this.

Newton, you naughty boy! Do you keep peroxide handy? Austin ate a tennis ball once but barfed it up when I gave him some peroxide. I'm really sorry you're going through this again.

X2!!

Yeah, the peroxide has saved some vet bills here, I'm sure. (COME ON, who eats the soccer ball?)

How frustrating his detection and ingesting skills are! :(

Hope he-- and you-- are doing ok!

Ditto peroxide...

And what are you feeding him (brand?), what are his treats? and how do you exercise him?

I really don't think Newton is lacking in any of the above areas.

Hes on raw and runs until exhaustion daily and is 11yrs old. He isnt lacking anything but thanks for checking. Hes seen a veterinary behaviorist, been worked up for every syndrome known to man and it was found he has brain damage. No fixing this boy. He has many issues, pica is just one.

Doing better, no diarrhea today and no vomiting. He may see another bday

First of all, holy cute dog, batman!

A friend of mine has a boston terrier who is a little crazy, kinda like your cutie, and they joke about installing a zipper in her abdomen to just go in and retrieve the latest random item she decided to eat that she wasnt supposed to eat.

Is it possible to replace all tennis balls with another kind of ball? I love these ones. Nice and bouncy. Sadie has had hers (medium size = size of normal tennis ball) for over 3 years now and hasnt killed it. Tennis balls last about 5 minutes.

I would love to eliminate them but Kal uses for nose work :( Newt on the other hand has nothing but antlers he can chew on, I may grab a few of those to see if he can have them safely.

Any suggestions on alternative for scent work so they can leave my house? Kal is extremely ball driven and if she doesnt have that outlet we are in trouble on that front. Tennis balls are locked in her scent ammo cans in the garage and she HAD a orbee ball in training bag and that is what he found.

I'll take suggestions but I have found NOTHING that has lasted longer then seconds.
