One of our Basset hounds went the the same route, his skin was always puffy despite drugs and food. His poor paws looked so big just because.

edited to add I remember those reactions to Nick my well behaved lovely dog and how frustrating it was - what made people think they could just accost us with their negative comments so weird- but we did change many minds and he was worth every minute!
