Bloody nails?
Sophie always seems to have pools of blood in most of her nails. This doesn't seem painful to her and I cut both dog's nails myself twice a month. When we got her, she had a couple of bloody nails but the vet said it could be from running so much. (She was a stray at the kennel.) She runs a lot still, in our backyard... Other dog's nails are fine. We have them both eating Blue Buffalo Freedom.
Has anyone else experienced this?

Re: Bloody nails?
Do you mean darkened nails that used to be white? Some of Roscoe's are like that too, I assumed it was from running after tennis balls.

They used to be pink, and now appear as if blood is inside of them. I don't know; never seen it before.
Re: Bloody nails?
Addie has that at the base of her nails. I dont think its blood, it seems to be pigment or coloration. They use to be white, too.

Bloody nails?
Hmmm maybe so! I just worry about it hurting her...but like I said, it doesn't seem to bother her a bit.

Re: Bloody nails?
Both of my female dogs have this, they are on different diets, the older girl is much worse and we asked the vet about them, he wasn't concerned about it.

Bloody nails?
That's so strange! I've never seen it before, so it bothered me. But it's good to hear that others' vets have the same opinion as mine.

Bloody nails?
Buddy has this too-- not sure if it's related to her red pigmentation but it's never bothered her.

Like this?

It's normal, and you may see it get darker with age. Lucy has 1 nail on 3 of her feet that did this as she got older, it's just pigment.

Re: Bloody nails?
it is usually a symptom of yeast candida, do some googling on (Yeast candida in dogs). yeast can be a real problem with your dogs health a nd well being.

I told my b/f I thought it was yeast and we mentioned that to the vet as well but he wasn't worried about it. Jersey's is still there, but seems to be going away rather than getting worse and Ripley just has it on a couple nails.
Re: Bloody nails?
oh I beleive it when the vet wasn't very worried, they make a ton of money on yeast issues
go read about yeast issues on this links (yes they are selling products, but it is good source of info re yeast in general)

Re: Bloody nails?
That just doesn't seem to be it. I am leaning toward more of a pigmentation type thing, or even just dried blood from excessive running and play. We're keeping an eye on it, but it doesn't seem to be causing any discomfort and she doesn't even notice it.

Re: Bloody nails?
My dog gets that when she has a yeast infection. Clears up as soon as it is gone.
