We have three dogs in our house right now and they all get roughly 2 cups a day, once in the morning and once at night. Bailey gets just under two cups...we don't overfill the cup, it's either level or just under. Trooper gets a big heaping of a cup each time. And Harley, the foster, pretty much gets exactly two cups.

What you'll likely find here is people telling you not to go by what's on the bag, but instead by your dog. What's on the bag is only a general guideline and I'd imagine very few dogs fall under it. Both Harley and Trooper will need more food on the days that they're active, the amount of food for Bailey (based on her weight) is too much. Really, if she were more active it'd be okay. But ever since she broke her foot-prolonged activity has her in pain for days, and I haven't the heart to cut her food down anymore. She isn't fat, but she could lose a few.

Bostons get 1/2 cup in the mornings and same at night, with a small scoop of canned in the mornings.
Great dane pup gets 1 cup 4x a day with canned in the first feeding
Boston pup gets 1 cup 2x a day, canned in the mornings
Boss eats 1 and 1/2 cup 2x a day with canned in the mornings

Before we switched to 4health Boss was easily eating 3 cups in the morning and 2 or more at night, sometimes begging for more if we had been to the lake. He shed alot and had bad gas, and was too much on the lean side for me. After 4health now for 1 month he is putting on weight, not overweight but almost where he should be. He has also put on alot more muscle since the switch. Once he tops off I will cut him back to 1cup 2x a day with canned. If his weight drops or he is getting fat we will go from there.

Because of his hips the vet doesnt want him overweight, but just at ideal. He was just under ideal, not skinny but too thin for me. Since the switch his shedding has improved and his gas. The vet wants us to have 60lbs of food through him before we start cutting him back, at that rate he will need about 2 more months I guess. He eats the same food as the dane so we are just going to cut him back if he gets chubby.

45 pound dog = 1/2 cup from a level measuring scoop twice daily
35 pound dog = same half cup measuring scoop, but heaping, twice daily.

Yes, my smaller dog eats more than my bigger dog. Every dog has a different metabolism.

I wish I had smaller dogs. lol

Buddy, my 80lb 12.5 yr old pit mix gets 3 cups split into two feedings.

Obi, my 5 year old 85lb boxer mix gets 4 cups split into two feedings.

Both dogs are kept quite lean for the sake of their joints.

It depends almost entirely on the brand of food, the weight of your dog, and their activity level. It's best to start out with the general guidelines you see printed on your bag of dog food, and adjust from there as you observe your dog.

Nelle is 9 months, 45 pounds. She eats 3 times a day. Blue buffalo puppy food for the dry. Mix of blue buffalo for the wet/canned foo Two table spoons wet food, half cup dry food, squirt of lick-o-chops and 1/3 tube of dynovite.

So daily total is:
6 table spoons wet food
1.5 cups dry food
1 tablespoon of lick-o-chops
1 tube of dynovite

She also gets apx 3-5 treats every day. The m&m sized blue buffalo treats. Every other weekend she gets a good sized boiled beef bone.

Little over half a pound in the morning, same later at night. Depends on what meat I'm feeding, if it's organ day, if they need more bone or more meat, etc.

Little dogs get around 2-4 oz once a day

I feed 3/4 to 1 cup twice a day --- but normally one meal is raw and that is 8 oz meat only or 10 oz meat with bone.

Vi is 5yrs old and is my most active. 55#
Am. just under 2/3 cup
Pm. just under 2/3 cup mixed with about 1/4 can Tiki Dog and her supplements.

Lucy is 12yrs old and my least active. She prefers to only eat once a day, always has.. 55#
Pm. 2 heaping cups mixed with about 1/4 can Tiki Dog and her supplements.

Sune is 7yrs old and crazy, but moderately active. 5#
Am. She usually eats about 10 pieces of kibble before she gets distracted.
Pm. Small handful of mixed with about 1 tablespoon of Tiki Dog and her supplements.

The cats share 2/3 cup of in the am, and split a can of Tiki Cat in the pm.

They all get some amount of table scraps throughout the day, and a decent amount of treats. I just get the dogs Milk Bones for their "standard" treats, and I always by the small size and break them into thirds so they can have a lot. All the cats and dogs eat the Fromm 4 star line.

Gracie has a metabolism that I would kill for so she gets 1 1/2 cups AM and PM
Gully and Zeke get 1 cup each AM and PM
Zoey gets 1 cup AM and PM but will frequently not eat a meal so she gets it served to her at the next one.
Cats get 1/2 a 5.5 oz can of food in AM and 1/3 cup dry at night.
I (and my vet) prefer the dogs and cats lean. I use the guidlines on the bag as a starting point but always need to adjust it to each animal accordingly. They don't get a lot of treats thru out the day but do occasionally get table scraps from my daughter (she is 17 months) I personally don't feel a need to feed dogs 3 times a day unless they would be severly underweight, then I would break up feedings so they don't get too much at one time.
