We have three dogs in our house right now and they all get roughly 2 cups a day, once in the morning and once at night. Bailey gets just under two cups...we don't overfill the cup, it's either level or just under. Trooper gets a big heaping of a cup each time. And Harley, the foster, pretty much gets exactly two cups.
What you'll likely find here is people telling you not to go by what's on the bag, but instead by your dog. What's on the bag is only a general guideline and I'd imagine very few dogs fall under it. Both Harley and Trooper will need more food on the days that they're active, the amount of food for Bailey (based on her weight) is too much. Really, if she were more active it'd be okay. But ever since she broke her foot-prolonged activity has her in pain for days, and I haven't the heart to cut her food down anymore. She isn't fat, but she could lose a few.
