Rabbit?

If I were to add raw rabbit to my dogs diet along with their kibble would I need to cut back on the kibble as well? Boss is hard to keep weight on still after the neuter. Ricky does fine on a small amount of kibble but he loves raw treats.

What about organs? Are those safe? We are getting ready to dispatch the first round of meat rabbits and I didn't want the organs to be a total waste.

Organs: liver, kidneys, lungs, heart (although that counts as a muscle), and spleen. (I do know of people who feed the rabbit whole too though.)

Organs are safe although go slow on them or your dogs may get the runs. I personally would maybe feed a day of rabbit, then kibble the next day instead of mixing them.

Do just a bit of reading to get the percentages in your head -- I feed 4 oz of organ a week with 50 kibble am /50 raw pm... you can pretty much use most everything tho I can't bring myself to feed beef 'marrow guts' that look like intestines!!! I would soooooo love to find rabbit at a reasonable price but I haven't seen it for a price that I'm willing to pay yet.

I've been known to feed whole rabbits, rats and guinea pigs to my dogs. All parts of the animal are good for your dog.

Why do the work of figuring out percentages when the rabbit is already portioned appropriately?

If your dog is low on calories, there's no need to cut back on kibble unless he starts to get chubby.

If you are looking to add calories and such for a skinny dog - rabbit's pretty low in fat. I know that I couldn't feed it to my competition dogs regularly since they need some fat in their diet.

Also, out of 5 dogs - only 1 likes rabbit. I have a friend who tried rabbit with 4 dogs and only one liked it.

If you want fatty meat, grocery store beef and pork work well. Anything that's on sale works. Too much fat isn't good, though. Excessively fatty meat can be trimmed, unless you enjoy liquid poo clean up.
